Become a Research Angler and help important fisheries research at Barkers Creek Reservoir in Harcourt

If you enjoy fishing, why not become a Research Angler? You’ll be contributing directly to research and helping to ensure there will be plenty of fish for you, your kids and grandkids to catch. You don’t need to be a scientist to take part – just an enthusiastic angler

Fisheries Victoria has awarded funding to the Bendigo & District Fly Fishing Club to conduct research into the redevelopment of the Trout fishery at Barkers Creek Reservoir in Harcourt. Scientific analysis of the fishery will be conducted by the Arthur Rylah Institute for environmental research and you can help too! You don’t have to be a fly fisher, we need anglers of all varieties to help to collect enough data to ensure fish and their habitats are being well managed.

By volunteering to become a research angler you will be issued with a log book to record details of your visits and catches at Barkers Creek Reservoir. This helps to monitor fish abundance and diversity, and other indicators of changes in environmental conditions. Data collected will be used by researchers from the Arthur Rylah Institute to complement scientific research and will have a direct impact upon future fish stocking.
